The Rev. Kurt Unangst

     Rev. Kurt grew up in Geauga County but he was born in Hyannis, Massachusetts. He attended
Calvin University (formerly Calvin College) studying Sociology and Criminal Justice. He worked 19 years for the State of Michigan's Department of Health and Human Services based in the Grand Rapids Public Schools. During that time, Rev. Kurt was a member of the United Auto Workers Local 6000. ​

     In 2017, with the help of the clergy and laity of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Grand Rapids, Michigan, he began to discern a call to ordained ministry. Rev. Kurt enrolled at Virginia Theology Seminary, graduating in 2022 with a Master of Divinity with a concentration in New Mission Practice. He spent two years interning at the historic St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Alexandria, Virginia. At graduation, Rev. Kurt and his spouse, The Rev. Canon Joanna DeHaan Unangst, relocated to Houston, Texas for a two year Curacy program. Rev. Kurt served two parishes while in Texas; St. Isidore's Episcopal Church (curate) and St. Mary's Episcopal Church (rector). 

     Rev. Kurt is the parent of two young adults, both in undergraduate studies. He is a coffee nerd, a book lover, hiker, aspiring fisherman, and the proud owner of two rascally cats, Pickles and Pippin.
